Bill Maher Has Blunt Message For Anyone Visiting The White House

Bill Maher has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump, but is set to have dinner with the president at the White House soon.
Maher, a self-described "old school liberal," accepted an invitation from Trump through musician Kid Rock, a Trump supporter who has also appeared on Maher's podcast. At one point more than a decade ago, Trump filed a lawsuit against Maher for jokes the comedian made at his expense, but now, the two are looking to put differences aside.
During a recent appearance on "The Chris Cuomo Project" podcast, Maher said he was hopeful that his visit with Trump can be looked at as a chance to find common ground, even with someone you have had issues with in the past.
"There was nobody who was harder on Trump or more prescient about the fact that he wasn't going to leave office voluntarily. I have the credentials," Maher said. "But they also respect me because I'm honest about the woke train to crazytown, and I don't shrink from that, and I've also lost a lot of fans for that. The woke people have left the building, and I'm willing to make that sacrifice. But it does give you a certain credibility."
Maher's politics have leaned left throughout his career, but his willingness to criticize Democrats and left-wingers has drawn the ire of those on his own side of the political aisle.
Maher has also taken his fair share of criticism for accepting Trump's overture, but told Cuomo he considers it "an honor to be invited to the White House."
"I'm impressed by it a lot," Maher said. "I'm impressed the f--- out of it. I get to go to the White House."
However, the 69-year-old entertainer made it clear he doesn't plan on "leaving in a MAGA hat," if anyone thought he was going to change his personal beliefs.
"It probably will accomplish very little, but you gotta try, man, you gotta try," Maher said.
