Bill Belichick is very much focused on the here and now after taking the job at North Carolina. But an interesting nugget in his contract has people speculating about how long he really plans on staying in Chapel Hill.

According to reports, the six-time Super Bowl champ has a clause in his agreement with the school that drops his buy-out from $10 million to $1 million after June 1, 2025 — potentially giving him flexibility to return to the NFL in the not too distant future if there's interest.

In a recent conversation with Jim Gray on SiriusXM, Belichick was asked if he's "left the door open" on the pro game with said clause but the coach didn't bite.

"Jim, you know I don't discuss contracts," Belichick replied. "… I'm here at North Carolina, I want to be at Carolina, and I'm excited about being at Carolina."

Bill also addressed whether or not he thinks he would've been approached for NFL opportunities had he not taken the job at UNC.

"Sure I think there would've been some interest, but in the end, really, it's not about what could've been or would've been, it's about the opportunity at North Carolina. I just think this program is in the right spot now to take off," Belichick said.

"Chancellor Roberts and the board of trustees have made a strong commitment toward football at North Carolina and I'm here with Mike Lombardi as our general manager to do all we can to accelerate that process. And we're gonna get the team, make it as competitive as we can as soon as we can."

Belichick came to terms on a five-year deal with the university that guarantees him $30 million over his first three seasons.

But right now it appears the Heels head coach is focused solely on the present.
