Bad Weather In Forecast For NASCAR Cup Series Race Sunday

03/30/2025 02:20 PM
Things could get a little wet and wild at Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville.
The Cook Out 400 is set to begin in less than an hour. It's the first of two races this year at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia, with the second scheduled for the Cup Series playoffs in the fall. Unfortunately, fans in attendance and drivers are possibly going to have to deal with some inclement weather this afternoon.
There's rain in the forecast in the Martinsville area, though the precipitation could hold off until this evening, providing a window for the race to run without any delays.
The good news, according to the RaceWeather account on X/Twitter, is that at the very least, the race should start on time.
"12:30 PM EDT @MartinsvilleSwy #NASCAR#weather update - Variably cloudy, 70°F, WSW winds, 7 mph Rain showers are about 100 miles west of track, moving northeast," said RaceWeather. "Chc of showers & t-storms remain in afternoon fcst 3:11 PM GF - They have lights. Should be good for an on-time start."
As for who is going to take home the checkered flag this afternoon, NASCAR legend Kevin Harvick predicted during the week that Joe Gibbs Racing's hot start to the 2025 season will continue.
"I'm taking the 11. I'm taking Denny Hamlin," Harvick said. "I think that this is his track. I think they have put themselves in a position to take advantage of the weekend, and this is the week that he goes to Victory Lane."
Joe Gibbs Racing already has three wins so far this year, all coming from Christopher Bell, who won at Atlanta, the Circuit of the Americas and Phoenix in consecutive weeks from Feb. 23-Mar. 9.
The 2025 Cook Out 400 will get underway at 3 p.m. ET. You can watch the event on FS1.
