Anthony Davis made a much-anticipated return from injury for the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night. The Mavericks big man was reportedly asked to not return this season, but he refused and he led the team to a win against the Brooklyn Nets in his first game back.

Anthony Davis will forever be immortalized in arguably the most shocking NBA trade in history, and it's no surprise that he wants to make whatever impact he can to shake that tag. After a comfortable 120-101 win for the Mavs, Davis made an emphatic statement on his decision to come back despite the Mavericks' woes.

"I play basketball, this is what I get paid to do... Any time I get a chance to come out and play I'm going to do it... I seen we were a man down forever, sometimes playing with 7 guys, 6, 8, and if I felt like I was 100% healthy to go play, I was going to do that.

"I stressed that to my team and I stressed that to the organization as well so tonight we felt like I was able to play and that's what I wanted to do. I'm not one to throw in the towel and sit down."

The Dallas Mavericks are still alive in the battle for the 9th seed in the Western Conference and play-in tournament. It's tough to say if they'll be able to achieve much without Kyrie Irving in the playoffs, but Davis certainly hasn't given up just yet.

Anthony Davis has recevied significant criticism in his career for his lack of availability and with a new lease of life on the Dallas Mavericks, he is out to prove his doubters wrong.
