One of the top players in the class of 2024 has decommitted from a top program in the Big Ten.

Liam McNeeley, who committed to Indiana back in October, has requested a release from his national letter of intent, according to 247Sports.

McNeeley is a 6'7" forward who currently plays at the prestigious Montverde Academy in Florida.

Several NBA stars have played for Montverde, including Scottie Barnes, Cade Cunningham and Ben Simmons.

McNeeley, a top-15 recruit, is now among the best players available to schools in the recruiting process and in the transfer portal.

Other schools he considered before signing with the Hoosiers included Kansas, Alabama, Michigan, Oklahoma and Texas.

The news comes during a difficult season for Indiana. The Hoosiers will need a miracle run in the Big Ten tournament to make the NCAA Tournament later this month.

They were considered one of the better teams in the Big Ten during the preseason, narrowly missing out on a spot in the AP Top 25 to begin the year.

McNeeley was Mike Woodson's lone commitment so far this season, and he'll now need to find a replacement for one of the best high school players in the country.

For McNeeley, he now has the opportunity to find a better situation and head to a school that better suits his needs.

He joins a growing list of top players who have opened their recruitment in the spring over the last few years, including Ron Holland.

Holland initially committed to Texas last year before being released from his NLI. He later chose to join the G League Ignite, joining other top prospects like Matas Buzelis.
