How Christian McCaffrey's NFL Dad Met His Track Star Mom (1:10)

Stop us if you've heard this one before but San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey needs just a little more time to recover.

Appearing on NFL Gameday today, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that McCaffrey did, in fact, fly to Germany this week to get treatment on his injured leg. He said that there is currently "no telling when he'll be back" and that it appears that McCaffrey needs weeks to recover, rather than being an imminent return to the practice field.

"Let's talk about the San Francisco 49ers, who practiced today, once again without their star running back Christian McCaffrey... obviously started the season on injured reserve. Still dealing with that Achilles tendonitis. (Things) got a little more interesting this week when head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that McCaffrey - thanks in part to a picture that was floating around social media - actually flew to Germany for some treatment on his Achilles. No telling when he'll be back. Seems like more of a matter of weeks rather than McCaffrey nearing a return, which means more Jordan Mason for the San Francisco 49ers..." Rapoport said.

Fans are becoming even more pessimistic that McCaffrey - the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year - will play at all this season with his injury timeline continuing to get pushed farther and farther back.

Many have gone so far as to declare that the "Madden Curse" is back in full force since he was the cover athlete of this year's edition of the Madden NFL video game franchise.

The good news is that McCaffrey has overcome injuries before. But that isn't going to help the 49ers much right now.

Luckily for San Francisco, they've been finding ways to win in spite of their injuries.
