The Edmonton Oilers are heading home on a winning note.

Edmonton won its second in a row and completed a four-game trip at 2-2 with a 3-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Sunday.

With the win, the Oilers moved one point ahead of Los Angeles for second in the Pacific Division, though the Kings have two games in hand.

The Oilers did a favour for the idle Montreal Canadiens, who remain one point behind the Rangers for the Eastern Conference’s final wild-card spot. Montreal also has two games in hand.

Edmonton’s Viktor Arvidsson, with his ninth of the year, broke a 1-1 tie early in the third period. Connor McDavid gave Edmonton some insurance with 3:25 left.

Corey Perry opened the scoring for the Oilers late in the first period before Will Cuylle tied it in the second.

Leon Draisaitl had an assist on Perry’s goal, extending his point streak to 18 games.

Edmonton’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had three assists for a season-high, single-game point total.

The Oilers begin a four-game homestand Tuesday against Utah.
