Club stuff, rugby stuff too

I was out of the country at the weekend so never got the chance to do the usual club results round-up. Not to worry – you all know the details by now and, in any event, Mike was on the ball with the Final Whistle pods that went out on Saturday and again yesterday.

So Crossmolina march on while Ballina and Cill Chomáin have reached the end of the road. That’s how it goes with knockout club championship football.

Crossmolina’s Intermediate Connacht final is against Elphin of Roscommon. The match is fixed for this weekend but date, time and venue details have yet to be confirmed for it.

The club has a fundraiser going at the minute, by the way, the aim of which is to support the team and management on their journey. The link for donations to this very worthwhile appeal is here.

The Tooreen hurlers also have a Connacht Intermediate final coming up this weekend. Their opponents in that decider are Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry of Galway and the final is fixed for Saturday at 1.30pm in Dr Hyde Park.

On a completely separate note, it appears that Mayo GAA are mulling over an approach from Connacht Rugby to play their URC match against Munster on 29th March next year at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park.

As we reported on the podcast’s X/Twitter account today (here), the approach from Connacht was discussed at last week’s County Board meeting. Club delegates gave the go-ahead at that meeting for County Board officials to broach the proposal with the GAA’s Central Council, whose approval is needed before negotiations on any such arrangement can get going properly. As was flagged in that tweet, this interesting development is an issue we’ll be discussing on the pod during the week.
