Meghan Murphy for PWHL BOS

At a few points in the season this seemed impossible, but Boston will be playing for the Walter Cup.

Boston was up 3-0 to start the third, and was looking good entering the final frame. At this point Montreal caught some breaks coughToo Many Skaterscough and was able to even it up at 3-3 with three minutes remaining. The energy in the arena shifted at this point and Boston had a golden chance for a Mueller brace but she was shut down. Then in the waning minutes, Kaleigh Fratkin netted the playoff clincher.

PWHL Boston finished 3rd in the league, and will compete for the Walter Cup!

Game Notes

  • Magic Number: 0 Elimination Number: No need. What was once a severe long shot from an embarassingly slow start, is now a reality; PWHL Boston will compete for the Walter Cup.
  • It was an educated night of goalscoring for Green and Gray, as Boston had goals from a number of NCAA alumni: Müller (Northeastern), Keller (BC), Fratkin (BU) and Knight (Wisconsin) all contributed big last evening in their winning effort.
  • Aerin Frankel was a brick wall for the first two periods, and maybe would've ended the night with a shutout...had Boston not started taking some dumb penalties which led to a pair of Mikayla Grant-Mentis goals. May need to work on that for the playoffs.
  • Tomorrow's Ottawa game will have no factor on the playoffs for Boston whatsoever; since Toronto gets to pick their opponent so the third or fourth seed is inconsequential. Ottawa will be eliminated without a regulation win, if that does happen...Minnesota's season ends in heartbreak after leading the league for nearly half the year.
  • We will await Toronto's decision as to whom they will play, the other team will get Montreal.
