Injuries, etc.

Prior to tonight's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Bruins announced a few roster transactions — and there's some bad news mixed in with the good.

The good news: as many have hoped, Matt Poitras has been recalled from Providence. He was on the ice for the team's morning skate earlier today and appears likely to play tonight.

Poitras was last with the B's a little more than two months ago; during his AHL stint, he put up 8G-12A-20PTS totals in 23 games.

In addition to Poitras, the B's also recalled defenseman Michael Callahan from Providence.

Why, you may ask? Well because they ALSO announced that Charlie McAvoy has been placed on injured reserve, retroactive to January 11.

The team also placed Mark Kastelic on IR (retroactive to January 9) and placed Hampus Lindholm on long-term IR (retroactive to November 12).

This means Kastelic and McAvoy won't be eligible to return until at least Jan. 17 and Jan. 19, respectively, as you have to be out at least seven days.

Lindholm has already been out a while and satisfied the LTIR requirements, so my guess is that move was more for salary cap reasons — but I could be wrong.

So, to summarize: Poitras and Callahan are up, McAvoy and Kastelic are on IR, Lindholm is on LTIR.

Busy Tuesday!
