St Kilda has bolstered its AFLW list with three exciting additions from the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft: Zoe Besanko, Kyla Forbes, and Alana Gee. This talented trio joins trade signings Charlotte Baskaran, Amber Clarke, and Nicola Barr as the latest players set to make an impact for the Saints in 2025.
Dandenong Stingrays captain Zoe Besanko was the Saints’ first pick at No. 32. A former netballer, Besanko is an athletic ruck/forward known for her versatility and speed, making her a valuable asset in various positions on the field.
Kyla Forbes, selected at pick No. 55, is one of the draft's most versatile prospects. Having played across all three lines for Calder Cannons and Vic Metro, Forbes is recognized for her elite left foot, strong contested game, and ability to adapt to different roles.
Alana Gee, a former Gold Coast Suns player, rounds out the Saints’ draft picks. Once a highly-rated prospect in her 2022 draft year, Gee has faced challenges with injuries, including an ACL rupture early in the 2024 season. Known for her speed, athleticism, and skill on the wing, Gee has the potential to be a game-changer as she continues her recovery and development.
AFLW List and Recruiting Manager Anthony Tang expressed excitement about the new recruits.
"We're thrilled to welcome Zoe, Kyla, Alana, and their families to St Kilda," Tang said. "Zoe's athleticism and strong marking, Kyla's elite kicking and versatility, and Alana's potential to unlock her best form make them fantastic additions to our young list."
Tang also highlighted the club's successful trade period, where they added experienced midfield depth. Together with the new draftees, the Saints are focused on building a strong, cohesive group that will develop and compete for years to come.
With these additions, St Kilda's AFLW squad is shaping up to be a dynamic mix of youth and experience, ready to tackle the 2025 season.
